Discuss with your doctor what medicines you are taking, he will probably have you discontinue drugs that decrease clotting a week or two before the procedure. Remember to mention vitamins and herbal supplements, as they can also have this same effect. If you smoke, try to stop, as it will help with your recovery. If you are worrying about the surgery, be sure to share your fears with the doctor, and with family so they can help.

Look around your home, Are there obstacles that will prevent you from getting around while you recover? Can you get to the bathroom and the bedroom safely and easily? Remove loose rugs and cords so you do not trip. If you shop for yourself, be sure to purchase healthy and satisfying meals that are easy to prepare.

Use the days before bypass surgery to make sure business affairs are in order. If you are religious, talk with your spiritual leader.
